Man – The light of our parent

We continue our examination of ‘the sun’ and how it’s used in scripture. In the previous articles, we saw how the sun is applied scripturally to Jesus in God – The Risen Sun, how it applies to Satan – The light of Darkness and now, we will see how it’s applied to man.

And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. [10] And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?

Genesis 37:9-10 KJV

The sun is applied to Jacob/Israel as a husband and a father, whilst his wife is positioned as the moon and his children as stars. The role of a man as a sun, mirrors the role of the natural sun. The sun is the ruler/head of the heavenly home:

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. [17] And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

Genesis 1:16-17 KJV

Man is head of the home:

One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; [5] (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

1 Timothy 3:4-5 KJV

The light, heat and energy of the sun, which allows life to flourish in the earth, is illustrated in man as priest, provider and protector of the home. But beyond a natural man being head of a natural home, the spirit man (male & female) are rulers (heads) over their home (earthen vessel).

2 Corinthians 5:6 KJV Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

The light that comes from man (male or female) will always be illustrative of which sun/man rules our home (body), the carnal/earthy man who is born of the flesh? Or the spiritual heavenly man, who is born of the Spirit?

The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. [48] As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

1 Corinthians 15:47-48 KJV

Why is the light illustrative? Because the light/glory that comes from an earthy (terrestrial) man, does not look the same as the light/glory of a heavenly (celestial) man.

There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

1 Corinthians 15:40 KJV

Before coming to Christ, we shined the light/glory of the earthy man, but when we come to Christ, in beholding him, we are changed from glory to glory. That is: we are moved from shining the light/glory of the earthy, to shining the light/glory of the heavenly:

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV

Man’s glory/light, whether earthy or heavenly, will be seen in our works:

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 KJV

Therefore, the light of man reveals which sun illuminates that man. Whose rays is he shining? Whose glory/ image is he bearing? Is his mind illuminated by the sun of righteousness? Or the light of darkness?

Remember, there’s the true Light of God:

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

John 1:9 KJV

And the fake light of the devil:

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:14 KJV

Whether the light that rules in our home (body) is true or false, will be revealed/ be made manifest, by the light (works) seen from that body (home). Recall, the sun is the father of the home. So, the light that rules a home (body) is the father of said home: hence Jesus words to the Pharisees and Sadducees:

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do……

John 8:44 KJV

Their actions revealed who their father was. Jesus was able to tell them that God was not their Father, because they were not shining the light of his love, which those who are his children, will shine:

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

John 8:42 KJV

The light (works) reveals/ manifest which father rules the home/body. The light therefore identifies whose children we are:

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

1 John 3:10 KJV

As spiritual children, we will always shine the light of our parent: those who are living after the course of this world will shine dead works as their father does, whilst those who live by the faith of the son of God will shine living work, the work of love, as did Our Father.

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1 John 3:16 KJV

In our next article of this Light Series, we will begin our examination of the “lesser light” that is, the moon, the bride of the sun and explore her light as spoken of throughout scripture.
