Psalm 4:2 KJV O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.

We continue our look at the Psalms and see how they point to or testify of Jesus as he indicated in John 5 and Luke 24 when he said:

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

John 5:39 KJV

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Luke 24:44 KJV

This article, and others found in Questions From the Psalms, focus specifically on questions taken directly from the book of Psalms and illustrates how they speak of Jesus.

The question for this article is taken from one of the two questions in Psalm chp 4 v 2:

O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.

Psalm 4:2 KJV

When man & woman was first created, there was no shame in being fully exposed to each other and to God.

And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Genesis 2:25

But with sin, came shame. As such even though man was created for God’s glory:

Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

Isaiah 43:7

As a result of sin, mankind is (now) living in shame i.e. living in sin.

We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.

Jeremiah 3:25

But within the story of our fall, God showed us how he was going to remove the shame of our sin by covering it:

Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Genesis 3:21

The covering shown in the beginning (verse above) was a shadow of the covering of Jesus for us today:

Romans 4:7

We are clothed in or covered by Christ: “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ (put him on like clothes)…” Romans 13:14

So how does the question of the psalmist concern|testify of Jesus?

It shows us that until or unless we choose to be clothed in|by him, we are yet abiding in the shame that comes from sin.

However, when we are clothed in Jesus, then and only then, are we clothed/covered in the glory for which we were created (Isaiah 43:7)

Since shame ends and glory begins when we come to Christ and are clothed in him (Jesus), then the question of how long we will turn glory to shame, is effectively asking of us- when will we step into the purpose for which we were created? when will we repent (of shame) and choose Christ (glory)?!

The wise (those who choose Jesus) shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools (those who reject Christ).

Proverbs 3:35

So….have you repented of sin and do you put your trust in Jesus?

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
