Meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.
Psalm 104:34 KJV
To meditate on the LORD is to marinate on his word, his word is Jesus. Thinking on him is indeed sweet, like honey on the lips of our mind/spirit.
But after our spirit consumes all the sweetness of his life giving word, then comes the bitterness ☠️ for the flesh in digesting it.
And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
Revelation 10:10 KJV
We love the sweetness of what he says, but kick and rail when our flesh has to die to live it. Sounds good saying to pray for your enemies and bless them that curse you, till our flesh wants to see the downfall of our enemies and curse those who curse us.
That’s when the sweet word of God becomes bitter. It’s bitter ☠️ to our flesh. Remember, Jesus encourages us to not just be hearers of his word (enjoying the sweetness) but be doers (digesting the bitterness). What is life to our spirit is death to the flesh. Selah!
