Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
Psalm 104:6 KJV
From verse 5, we can see that “the foundation of the earth is what is being covered here, and the foundation of the earth being clothed by the deep is a shadow of the spiritual reality that the natural man is clothed in darkness.
But why?
Because the light of the Spirit cannot be received by the natural man (1 Cor 2:14).
But doesn’t Jesus bring light to those who trust in him even while we in natural bodies?
How then can it be said that the natural man cannot receive light? And will remain clothed in darkness?
Being clothed with the light of Jesus only happens when the natural man dies. The natural man dying is a reference to when “the mind of flesh” dies which is us being crucified with Christ.
Jesus clothes the spirit of our mind with light, where it was previously in darkness:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. – 2 Corinthians 4:4
And with the foundation of his light laid, which is the light of the spirit, now we can “walk in the light” i.e. walk in the spirit. And walking in the spirit will always result in the death of the natural man.
