Psalm 104:26 Made for the sea

The sea is symbolic of darkness and the leviathan (the devil) was made for it. Jesus affirms this when he said:

You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 8:44 NASB

He was never a creature of light, his nature from the beginning was dark i.e. from the start he was a murderer, a liar.

Satan was never good!

Many of us, including myself, have been taught that the devil was once good. This belief has deeper roots in tradition than it does in scripture. Let’s search the scripture, as Jesus instructs, and follow where it leads as we dive into this topic.

You’re probably wondering. Why? God has always given mankind a choice. He warned us not to touch and told us what would happen if we do ☠️. He implored his people in Duet 30:19 to chose life i.e. chose him. But like Adam, we chose death.

Thankfully, the LORD promised to defeat the leviathan, and in so doing defeat death:

In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Isaiah 27:1 KJV

There are many names, titles or adjectives used across scripture in reference to Satan. In the last article, Satan: always the devil?! we saw him presented as “the Wicked One”. In Christ ✝️ the promise is fulfilled.
From the beginning, Leviathan was made for the sea, whereas, from the beginning, God gave man dominion over it. Christ calls us to walk on the waters of the sea with him. For it’s only in walking with him ✝️ are we abiding in the place God desired for us from the beginning, to be with him. In that place, the sea is forever under our feet.
