And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.
Psalm 104:15 KJV
Here God continues from verse 14, to describe things “He causes”. He speaks of wine, oil and bread and the impact they have. Today let’s examine oil.
Oil is typically connected with anointing in scripture and to be filled with the Spirit of God is described biblically as being anointed:
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
KJV Acts 10:38
Now consider, like wine, which we examined here, oil is also an end product of “crushing”. Oil requires olives to be crushed. Jesus blew on disciples and said “receive ye the Holy Ghost”, but only did so after his resurrection. He was crushed ✝️ and we are anointed with Holy Spirit by virtue of it.
The psalmist said the oil causes a man’s face to shine, cause when we are anointed with the Holy Spirit, the glory of the Lord will be seen in our lives. We will shine his light in this dark world.
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Philippians 2:15 KJV
