Psalm 104:11 KJV They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.
In verse 10, we are told that God will send springs to the high (hills) and the low (valleys). i.e. His truth will be preached everywhere. Now we are told that the “beast of the field” & “wild asses” will drink & quench their thirst.
Time to dig for treasure. “The field” is the world:
Matthew 13:38 The field is the world….
Beast is used in many ways in scripture, one such usage is in reference to man:
If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.
1 Corinthians 15:32 KJV
Paul was referring to ungodly men, men who are controlled by the beast nature. Why fight them if we will die same as them. Man as beast is echoed here:
I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
Ecclesiastes 3:18 KJV
So a “beast of the field” is the natural/beastly man, a man who is of the world/field, like king Nebuchadnezzar, eating grass like a beast (Daniel 4:25) i.e. consuming flesh like a carnal man.
A beast will only drink of the water (Christ) when thirsty i.e. it’s only when the ungodly man comes to the place where he sees that the world cannot quench his spirit, he will come to the water. And remember, all who are filled with ‘living water’ are springs where the beast of the field (an ungodly man) can drink and quench their thirst.
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Isaiah 55:1 KJV
