Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
Psalm 104:3 KJV
God isn’t just being poetic when he speaks as he does above. He’s actually telling us something meaningful.
“He lays the beams of his chambers in the waters” is him saying he sets up his dwelling place in his people. ‘The waters’ refer to people:
And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Revelation 17:15 KJV
When the light of the sun makes its home in the waters, the heat of that light causes the waters to be transformed into vapour, leaving all impurities behind. The vapour then then rises to be become clouds.
When God, who is light, makes his home in us, who are called waters, we are transformed by the heat of his love. As a new creature in Christ, the old has passed away, and we are now raised up to heavenly places. This is why after the psalmist speaks of God laying the beam of his chambers in the waters, he then goes on to talk about the clouds being God’s chariot. It’s not a new thought but it’s the natural progression of the believer. The Spirit of God enters us when we were “waters” and transforms us into “clouds“.
Just as natural clouds are moved by wind, so to are we moved by the wind of the Spirit:
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
John 3:8 KJV
The psalmist then speaks of how the LORD rides the clouds as a chariot. This is us being led by the Spirit.
Jesus often spoke of coming “in/with the clouds”. He is seen when he comes in the clouds with great power and glory i.e. he is seen when he comes in his people because the cloud was transformed by his power, from waters filled with darkness (impurities/ sin), to a cloud of light… the cloud becomes bright i.e. filled with the light/ glory of God
Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
Zechariah 10:1 KJV
So he comes in the clouds and the clouds becomes bright, the clouds are also now filled with living water .i.e. rain aka the word of God; to minister to the gospel to those who are yet earthy.
God doesn’t waste words. When he speaks, let’s hear what the Spirit is saying. Be blessed.
