If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
Psalm 11:3
To destroy the foundation is akin to removing pillars, addressing a thing at its root. Destroy the root, destroy the plant, destroy the pillars, the building will collapse. The foundation of the righteous is Jesus:
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:11
And he describes faith in Him|The Word of God as equivalent to building our lives (homes) on a rock. Recommended reading Psalm 18 – Who is a rock save our God?
He goes on to say that when we build by his instruction, our homes will stand when the attack of the enemy comes (storm). The home remains standing only because it is built on a rock. The rock is immovable and therefore, so is the house (life) which stands on it.
To destroy the home therefore, the storm has to first destroy the foundation of it. That is, for the devil to get to us, he has to go through Christ first.
Now to the question of the psalmist and how it concerns|testifies Jesus.
The question appears to be a rhetorical one.
Question: Romans 8:31 ….If God be for us, who can be against us?
Answer: No one
Question: Psalm 11:3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
Answer: Nothing
However, the “If” in the question means, that the answer is rhetorical conditionally.
That is:
- Only IF God is for you can no one stand against you. That is to say, without him, we are easily pushed over by the devil.
- Only IF the foundation could be destroyed would those who stand on it be in trouble. Thankfully the foundation of Christ is sure. The devil may be able to destroy the faith some have in the foundation, but the foundation remains sure, even if our faith in him may waiver, he is stedfast.
Now to close, if you noticed, it said foundations, not ‘foundation’ in the question, as such the answer does change.
Consider that Christ is 1 foundation within him we have love, joy, peace, strength etc each is a foundation needed to stand in one area or another. Our sanity stands on the foundation of peace, relationships on love etc.
Selah!
